1. Lake Michigan
As the closest, biggest, and most obvious angling location, Lake Michigan offers precisely what you need if you want to hook the big one. Most of the year, we like to drop our line in Montrose Harbor. Less than a decade ago, one man caught a state record lake white fish and burbot on the same day.
In winter, however, we like to fish for perch along the shore of Calumet Park and Steelworker Park. You can also try the Calumet River if the day draws to a close and you haven’t hit your limit yet.
2. The Chain o’ Lakes
The Chain o’ Lakes, known locally as “The Chain,” remains popular with anglers due to its biological diversity. Some of the most commonly caught fish along The Chain include:

- Yellow perch
- Bluegill
- Channel catfish
- Pumpkinseed
Composed of ten lakes, The Chain becomes a popular ice-fishing destination in the winter. You can fish at the following locations:

- Pistakee Lake
3. Fox River
Wade into the calm waters of Fox River or cast your line from the shore to snag yourself some supper. In summer, when the kids are out of school, families like to visit Fox River to play in the calm waters and get their lines wet downstream from the dams. Anglers do well at Fox River, catching mostly catfish and smallmouth bass. You can find accessible shorelines all along the river.
4. Chicago River
Enjoy dinner and a show before throwing your bait out into the Chicago River to see if you can get a nibble. In a humorous clash of two different worlds, Chicago’s elite coexist with grizzled anglers along the city’s famed Riverwalk. If you’re dressed appropriately, you could sit down at a five-star restaurant, take in a movie, and finish your evening with a little angling.

5. Humboldt Park Lagoon

However, its close proximity to Lincolnwood makes it an easy place to visit on a whim.
