3 Engine Problems You Should Always Fix at Your Mercedes-Benz Dealership

Your Mercedes-Benz engine is an advanced piece of automotive engineering that provides superior power and performance. Even this great engine can be affected by old or worn parts. At your Mercedes-Benz dealership, we have the experts and technology to repair any engine problems. These are a few potential issues we can repair.

Poor Compression

Compression is part of the combustion process, and it increases the explosive power of the fuel-air mixture. Your engine uses a mixture of fuel and air, which must be precisely mixed before it enters the cylinders. Once the mixture enters a cylinder, the cylinder closes, and the piston rises at speed. The rising piston compresses the fuel-air mixture, which is then ignited by the spark plug.

Each cylinder is airtight once it closes, as excess air will reduce the compression, and your engine power will drop. You can feel the drop in power as your car seems to lurch rather than spring forward smoothly. Low compression can be caused by worn piston rings, holes in the cylinder, or a broken valve seal. We’ll examine your engine to find and fix this issue.

Damaged Sensors

Your vehicle has numerous sensors which provide essential information to your computer. This information is used to make decisions on everything from the percentage of air in the fuel-air mixture to the distribution of electricity through the system. The sensors also monitor the components they’re connected to ensure they’re working effectively.

A damaged sensor can cause major problems, as it won’t supply information to the computer. Without this information, the computer will have to make its decisions blindly. A broken oxygen sensor, for example, could mean the computer allocates less air to the engine than it needs. A lack of air in the engine can increase fuel consumption and damage the spark plugs. We’ll test the sensors and replace any malfunctioning ones.

Damaged Radiator

Your high-performance engine needs an equally high-performance cooling system to maintain the correct operating temperature. The radiator takes in hot air from the engine and exchanges it for cooler outside air. The cooling process happens at high speed and under high pressure. In time, these factors can lead to wear or damage to the radiator.

Radiator hoses can become less flexible and crack, sludge can build up in the radiator and create blockages, and the radiator can start to rust. All these situations reduce the cooling system’s performance and can cause your engine to overheat. Our expert technicians can easily identify and repair any of these issues.
